About 75% of the pet food sold in the US is made by one of the five global food mega-corps: Mars, Nestle Purina, JM Smucker, Colgate-Palmolive and General Mills. This includes many of the small "premium" pet food brands like Merrick, Organix, Royal Canin, Rachael Ray and Natural Balance. Here is a partial list of what they own:

The irony is not lost on us at COAST+RANGE that these manufacturers of sugary treats and carbohydrate-laden foods for humans also make carbohydrate-laden food for pets. Obviously, there are economies of scale to be found when many pet foods contain carbs and by-products from the human food supply chain.
You may be surprised to find out that your pet adoption website or smart collar manufacturer is owned by one of these mega-corps. You may even MORE surprised to find out that your veterinarian may be owned by the world's largest pet food company. You would think that with the Billions of dollars these MEGA Corporations make they would provide high quality products - It's hard to understand that one of the most popular dogs foods on the market today have as their first ingredients: CORN, CHICKEN BY-PRODUCT MEAL, WHEAT, WHEAT GLUTEN, CHICKEN FAT, BREWERS RICE, CORN GLUTEN MEAL, NATURAL FLAVORS, BREWERS RICE FLOUR, ETC.
THERE IS NO MEAT IN THIS DOG FOOD!!!!
AND their Cat Foods are the same!!!
HONESTLY THERE IS NOTHING NUTRITIOUS LISTED!!! CORN IS NOT DOG FOOD!!!! CHICKEN BY-PRODUCTS IS THE SKELETON OF THE CHICKEN!!! BREWERS RICE IS A CHEAP FILLER. NOTICE THE SPLIT INGREDIENT IN THE CORN AND ALSO THE BREWERS RICE!!!
AND prices range from $3.40-$10.33 / pound depending on what your breed of dog is. Interesting that the same ingredients are in each bag regardless of what breed of dog the food is for.
I didn’t know most of this until about 7 years ago. Most of this information
Is very upsetting to me. As a breeder and owner of pets I want the
Best nutrition for my dogs and cats.
Over the years I have tried multiple brands of dog food for my dogs
And puppies. Some I didn’t like at all and some I liked for awhile
